Collision Of Minivan And Backhoe Sends One Person To The Hospital

October 08, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Boyden)– One person was taken to the hospital when a minivan collided with a backhoe in Boyden late Thursday afternoon.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 52-year-old Michael Doorenbos of Boyden was driving a 2008 New Holland backhoe northbound on Colfax Street. Deputies say Doorenbos had stopped at a stop sign and pulled in the intersection when he collided with a 2001 Ford Windstar driven by 36-year-old Victor Casias of Sheldon, who was westbound on Highway 18.

Casias was trapped in the minivan and had to be extricated by the Boyden Fire Department. Casias was then taken by ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Doorenbos was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Casias was cited for operating a motor vehicle without meeting insurance requirements and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked driver’s license.

The collision took place shortly after 4:30 pm.
