Clay County Collision Injures Three

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A two-vehicle collision Thursday at the intersection of two Clay county roads sent three people to the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says 22-year-old Gordon Fossum of Milford was eastbound on County Road B-24 at the intersection with County Road M-27 when he pulled into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by 54-year-old Shirley Johnson of Lake Park. Authorities say the impact of the crash caused the vehicle driven by Fossum to go into a ditch on the southeast corner of the intersection.

Fossum, Johnson and a passenger in Fossum’s vehicle, 27-year-old Melissa Hopcroft, address unknown, were all taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital. Fossum and Johnson sustained what was termed as incapacitating injuries while Hopcroft was treated for non-incapacitating injuries.

Six thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2000 Dodge driven by Fossum while a 2006 Pontiac driven by Johnson sustained an estimated nine thousand dollars in damage.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Everly and Royal Rescue and the Spencer ambulance.

The mishap took place shortly before 8:00 a.m. Thursday.
