Clay Co. Collision Sends One Person To Hospital With Possible Injuries

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A two-vehicle collision Saturday at the intersection of Clay County Road M-50 and Highway 18 sent one person to the hospital with possible injuries.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 77-year-old Richard Betz of Spencer was northbound on County Road M-50 and had pulled into the intersection. Authorities say 27-year-old Alicia Christensen of Waverly was westbound on Highway 18 when she collided with the passenger-side of the vehicle driven by Betz.

The impact of the crash caused the vehicle driven by Betz to spin, facing westbound in the southbound lane of the county road. The vehicle driven by Christensen also spun, winding up facing east on the county road.

Christensen was taken by a family friend to Spencer Hospital where she was checked for possible injuries. No injuries were reported to Betz, who was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

A 2006 Ford minivan driven by Betz and a 1997 Subaru Impreza Outback driven by Christensen were both totaled.

The crash was reported shortly before 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
