(Milford)– A Dickinson county municipality is looking at new options for police protection.
The city of Terril currently has its own part-time Police Department consisting of off-duty officers from other towns–primarily Milford.
Speaking at Monday’s Milford City Council meeting, Tim Fairchild, a member of the Terril City Council, said several things have come together leading the town to go in a different direction when it comes to police protection. He says they’d like to contract it out with another municipality. Fairchild says Milford is at the top of the list since it’s Police Chief, Vern Flack, has been providing service to Terril when he’s off-duty in Milford.
Fairchild says Terril will have to look at other options, including the possibility of contracting with the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, if it can’t work something out with a neighboring town.
The Milford city council referred the matter to the city’s Personnel Committee for a recommendation.
City Administrator Brian Reed told the council the city would have to hire atleast one more full-time officer if it would enter into an agreement with Terril.
