City Of Spencer Authorizes Purchase Of Property Adjacent To Landfill It Owns In Graettinger

February 22, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– The Spencer City Council has approved the purchase of some property in Graettinger, adjacent to the landfill the city of Spencer owns. Public Works Director Mark White told the council they were recently approached by an estate that owns the land. He says the purchase will help secure the future for the landfill site…

“What we would do with the property is remove the buildings, offer the dwelling for a sealed bid and then enter into an agreement with Palo Alto County Conservation to manage this as public land as they already do with the current CRP acres that are on the east side of the landfill. We feel that it’s a way to secure the future in allowing us, like I already said once, repeated expansion. When there’s a dwelling it changes the regulations of the landfill rules.”

The $275,000 needed for the purchase will come from landfill reserve funds that have been set aside for such purposes.
