(Spirit Lake)– A fight early Monday in the Center Lake trailer court sent one man to the hospital and another to jail.
Spirit Lake police say officers were called shortly after 3:00 a.m. to a report of an altercation at lot 78 in the Center Lake trailer court.
Upon investigating police determined the altercation stemmed from two vehicles that had been damaged…a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup and a 1998 Ford Explorer.
Authorities say one man, an 18-year-old who’s name wasn’t released, was assaulted by another man who had a knife. The victim was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare where he was treated and later released.
The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Luis Humerto Mendez-Florez of Spirit Lake, was arrested and charged with assault and going armed with intent…both class “D” felonies; and operating while intoxicated…first offense.
Mendez-Florez was booked into the Dickinson county jail.
Police say the case is open and remains under investigation.
