CCE Student Charged For Allegedly Threatening To Bring Gun To School

November 22, 2014

(Everly)– A local school was locked down Wednesday and a juvenile was arrested after authorities learned a student might be bringing a gun to the school.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it received a 911 call around 7:30 a.m. from the Clay Central-Everly school. The caller told authorities the school had received information that a student might be bringing a gun to school.

School emergency plans were initiated and the school was locked down, with deputies posted at the doors.

Deputies located the suspect student on school property prior to entering the school. The student was taken into custody without incident. No weapons were found on the suspect, identified as a 14-year-old white male, who’s a freshman at the school. His name wasn’t released.

The boy was charged with threat of terrorism, a class “D” felony punishable by up to five years. He was taken to Youth Emergency Services in Cherokee.

Sheriff Randy Krukow credits quick action by his office and other law enforcement agencies as well as school officials for quickly defusing a potentially dangerous situation.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spencer Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Clay County Attorney’s Office and juvenile court authorities.

Authorities say the incident remains under investigation.
