(Emmetsburg)– While many Dickinson county residents are still reeling from their latest assessed valuations, a contest over one in Palo Alto county is drawing a lot of attention.
It involves the Wild Rose Casino and Palo Alto county.
Officials with Wild Rose Resorts Casino in Emmetsburg say the 11.8 million dollar valuation established by the Palo County Board of Review is excessive and would result in the casino having to pay an exhorbitant amount of property taxes.
The county determined the 2006 assessment on a cost basis; casino officials say it should be based on market value.
The two sides are hoping to reach agreement on the 2007 valuation through mediation.
