Car Collides With Fire Hydrant, Office Building

(Sibley)– A Sibley man was injured today (Tuesday) when a vehicle he was driving collided with a fire hydrant in front of the Melvin Savings Bank in Sibley and then ran into an office building.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 86-year-old Donald Echter of Sibley was southbound on Second Avenue when he lost control.

Echter was taken by ambulance to Osceola Community Hospital. There was no word on the extent of his injuries or condition.

A 2003 Buick Echter was driving sustained an estimated thre thousand dollas in damage; damage to the fire hydrant was estimated at 400-dollars; and the office building owned by Terry Gregg sustained an estimated 45-thousand dollars in damage.

Echter was cited for failure to maintain control.
