(Spencer)– The list of people vying to become Spencer’s next Police Chief has been narrowed from 22 to 15 by the city’s Civil Service Commission.
Three of them are currently officers on the department. The others are from Carroll, Clive, Grinnell, Windsor Heights, Waverly, Nevada, Sergeant Bluff and Tipton…all in Iowa. Others are from Papillion, Nebraska; Marinette, Wisconsin; and Arlington, Washington.
The city’s Public Safety Committee will narrow the list further next week. The finalists will be interviewed by a committee selected by the Mayor.
Michael Lashbrook resigned as Spencer’s Police Chief in December to become Police Chief in Mason City. Jim Berhow, a lieutenant in the Spencer Police Department, has been appointed interim chief. He did not apply for the position.
