(Undated)– Authorities throughout the region are again reminding everyone NOT to give out personal information to anyone on the phone or through email.
Numerous law enforcement agencies say they’ve been getting reports from residents being contacted from someone claiming to be with a bank stating that their account has been compromised. In some cases, spammers are using spoofing technology that results in the bank’s phone number actually showing up in your caller I.D.
The caller asks the person on the other end of the line to provide them with passwords associated with their account. Authorities say you should NEVER give out that information and instead to simply just hang up.
They add that if you DO have questions about the status of your account, you should reach out to your bank directly.
