(Arnolds Park)– While attendance numbers at Arnolds Park amusement park are pretty much holding their own so far this season compared to last, park officials say they are noticing a decline in food and beverage sales.
Scott Pyle told the board of directors of Historic Arnolds Park Incorporated Monday that it could be another sign of the times, as park goers appear to realigning how they’re spending their money. He says he’s seen quite a few people tailgating in the parking lot.
On a positive note, it was reported the park’s operating loan for this year has already been paid off…much earlier than in previous years. Al Maser, Chairman of the HAPI Board, says the ultimate goal is to be able to avoid having to get an operating loan prior to the start-up of operations each year.
In other business, the board voted to establish a memorial plaque for board member Mike Zenor who recently passed away unexpectedly. Donations are being taken for the plaque, to be mounted in the water fountain in amusement park parking lot. In addition, the rain garden at the parking lot will be named in Zenor’s memory. He was instrumental in getting funding and assistance in designing the rain garden and parking lot. It was also noted that Zenor did a lot of the board’s legal work pro-bono.
The next meeting of Historic Arnolds Park, Incorporated’s board of directors will be the organization’s annual meeting, set for 4:00 p.m. August 17th at the Hedberg Theatre of the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum in Arnolds Park.
