(Spencer)– Area fire chiefs are encouraging anyone planning to do any open burning in coming days to exercise extreme caution, or better yet, to put it off altogether until the area receives some significant moisture. Authorities say the extremely dry conditions along with dried out, dead vegetation are the perfect fuel for grassfires.
Sunday, several grass fires broke out in Clay county, including one that reportedly threatened some buildings and an LP tank. Authorities say some of those fires were the result of controlled burns or trash fires that got out of hand.
The very high fire danger is expected to continue into the foreseeable future with no precipitation in the forecast.
