AP Council Gives Nod To Assisting IGLMM In Paving Project

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– With the December 15th deadline for getting parking lots in Arnolds Park paved, the city council Wednesday heard an update from the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum on their plans to pave the amusement park parking lot. Spokesman Jim Frost told the council they’ve scaled back the project to make it more affordable–going from three quarters of a million dollars in the original plan to 175-thousand. Frost said the Maritime Museum Board continues to explore various options to pay for the project, but said they may need some assistance from the city if those don’t work out. The council seemed favorable to assist in that regard. City Administrator Ron Walker said the city cannot legally assess for the project, but they could enter into an agreement with the Maritime Museum to recoup the money by readjusting valuation and property taxes. No formal action was taken by the council on that issue.

In other business, the Arnolds Park city council scheduled a public hearing for 7:30 p.m. November 10th on a proposal from Fred Davenport to construct a deck over a portion of city-owned right-of-way; awarded a bid of 44,445-dollars from Rohlin Construction to revamp a parking lot at the end of Zephyr Drive near the roller coaster; and they scheduled a public hearing for October 27th to talk about proposed utility and street improvements for Forest Park Road.
