(Arnolds Park)– Iowa Agriculture Bill Northey announced today (Friday) the formation of a new urban conservation program.
Speaking at a low impact development seminar in Arnolds Park, Northey said four conservationists will be hired to oversee the program through the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. He says they will likely operate out of Soil and Water Conservation District offices and will be based out of Dickinson, Pottawattamie, Johnson and Polk counties.
Northey says the department’s Soil Conservation Division will provide one year’s funding to Soil and Water Conservation Districts in those counties.
Northey says the conservationists will provide information and technical assistance on soil and water conservation methods to developers, city officials, government agencies and private landowners.
The positions will be funded for one year through the Resource Enhancement and Protection Program. Northey says he’ll be seeking longer term funding through the legislature.
