(Spirit Lake)– Additional charges have been filed against a Spirit Lake man in connection with a fatal shooting July 29th.
According to court documents, additional charges of involuntary manslaughter and discharging a weapon within city limits have been filed against 55-year-old Kenneth Neilson, Junior of Spirit Lake.
Neilson was originally charged with reckless use of a firearm in connection with the July 29th incident that claimed the life of 53-year-old Marlan Lutterman of Worthington.
According to court documents, Neilson told 911 dispatchers he had been cleaning his gun in his apartment in the Lakes Apartments building when it went off after he nearly dropped it.
A search warrant that was executed on the apartment a short time later resulted in authorities seizing about 60 guns, including revolvers, a nine millimeter gun, various 22-gauge rifles and shotguns and more than 50 full or partial boxes of ammunition.
Arraignment for Neilson is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. September 10th in Dickinson County District Court.
