Accidents Keep SL Police Busy

(Spirit Lake)– A rash of accidents kept Spirit Lake police busy for awhile Tuesday.

The first mishap was reported around 2:30 p.m. Police say vehicles driven by 79-year-old Wilbert Thee of Spirit Lake and 63-year-old Albert Smith of Rose Creek, Minnesota collided at the intersection of Highways nine and 71 and Gary Avenue. Authorities say Thee was northbound on Gary Avenue and had entered the intersection while Smith was eastbound on Highways nine and 71. Thee was taken by ambulance to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital with what was described as non-incapacitating injuries. No injuries were reported to Smith. Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2001 Chevrolet truck driven by Thee with 4,500-dollars in damage estimated to a 1998 Dodge truck driven by Smith…which was pulling a gooseneck livestock trailer.

The other mishap took place shortly after 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Lake Street and Ithaca Avenue. Police say it involved vehicles driven by 47-year-old Cindy Jensen and 17-year-old Daniel Boettcher…both of Spirit Lake. Boettcher was taken by ambulance to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital with possible injuries. No injuries were reported to Jensen. Three thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 1995 Honda Civic driven by Jensen while a 1995 Pontiac driven by Boettcher sustained an estimated four thousand dollars in damage. Authorities say Jensen was eastbound while Boettcher was westbound. Jensen was charged with failure to yield on a left turn.
