(Spencer)– An expansion and upgrade at the Abben Cancer Center in Spencer has received a 500-thousand dollar donation from the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation.
The project has a total estimated cost of 4.2 million dollars.
Leon Rodas, President of the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation, says a portion of the 500-thousand dollar gift was left to the foundation in the Abben family’s estate to be used toward a construction project. Rodas says the remainder of the foundation’s contribution comes from donors who have designated their gifts be used for Abben Cancer Center and the people served there.
The project is to start once the weather permits this spring.
It will include replacing a linear acclerator that’s used in providing radiation therapy. Abben officials say the new state-of-the-art equipment will improve the precision and effectiveness of tumor treatments.
They say the project will be done in such a way so as not to disrupt service to patients in any way whatsoever.
