(Spirit Lake)– The intersection of Dickinson County Road A-34 and 213th Avenue at the new elementary school currently under construction on the west edge of Milford will soon become a 4-way stop.
Traffic on 213th Avenue is already required to stop at that intersection. Now, east-west traffic on County Road A34 will also be required to stop. The Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 this (Tues.) morning to make the change at the request of the city of Milford. Milford Police Chief Shilo Brevik says they’ll closely monitor things with the 4-way stop, adding they may have to re-visit the matter in the future…
“I firmly believe the stop signs will be sufficient but time will tell, and if we get it approved now like we were discussing the other day, it would give us a year to determine that before the school is open whether we need a lighted beacon. The city’s talked about if we need to, like maybe some lighted stop signs or something, too, so we have some other options, but I think a four-way stop is definitely needed and I think stop signs are generally safer than traffic lights any way, so.”
The change could happen in just a matter of days. County Engineer Jeff Rose told the supervisors the new stop signs will go in just as soon as his crews have time to install them.
A person who lives in that area expressed concern over that intersection which she says is already dangerous, adding it’s likely to get even more so. She also made reference to a high volume of truck traffic coming in and out of a nearby pipeline facility.
