3-Vehicle Wreck Results In Fire, No Injuries

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A three-vehicle chain reaction accident late Thursday afternoon in Milford resulted in no injuries, but there was a considerable amount of property damage with one of the vehicles catching on fire.

Milford Police Chief Vernon Flack says it took place around 4:17 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 71 and Sixth Street.

Flack says 18-year-old Sara Roghair of Spirit Lake was southbound on Highway 71 and had stopped to make a left turn onto Sixth Street. Another vehicle was behind her, driven by 29-year-old Jessica Bailey of Spencer. Flack says 18-year-old Kelsey Meyer of Spencer was in a third vehicle behind Bailey. He says Meyer was talking on a cell phone and failed to see the two vehicles in front of her. She collided with the rear of the vehicle driven by Bailey, pushing it into the rear of the car driven by Roghair. Meyer’s vehicle then started on fire. A Dickinson County Sheriff’s Deputy extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher by the time police and Milford Fire and Rescue units arrived.

1,500-dollars in damage was estimated to a 1994 Pontiac driven by Roghair; another 1994 Pontiac driven by Bailey sustained an estimated 3,500-dollars in damage; damage to a 1995 Buick driven by Meyer was estimated at atleast four thousand dollars.

All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
