3-Vehicle Crash Shuts Down Hwys 9 & 71 On East Edge Of Spirit Lake

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A three-vehicle crash late Friday afternoon on Highways nine and 71 on the east edge of Spirit Lake sent one person to the hospital and shut down the highway in that area for about an hour and-a-half.

Spirit Lake police say a semi driven by Douglas Ray of Inwood collided with a 1991 Pontiac driven by Everrett Eddy of Spirit Lake as Eddy was backing from a driveway onto the highway.

The semi then swerved to the left and collided with a 1992 Chevrolet pickup driven by Kevin Turner of Worthington.

Eddy was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare. There was no information on the extent of his injuries or condition.

No other injuries were reported.

Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the vehicle driven by Eddy; a Peterbilt semi driven by Ray sustained an estimated eight thousand dollars in damage; and a thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the pickup driven by Turner.

The crash took place shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Highways 9 and 71 just north of Bob’s Repair.

The Spirit Lake Police Department was assisted by the Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance, the Iowa State Patrol and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
