3-Vehicle Crash Disrupts Traffic, But No Serious Injuries Reported

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Officials say it’s a wonder no one seriously hurt in a three-vehicle collision Monday that disrupted traffic on Highway 71 south of Spencer.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Christine Radke of Rembrandt was northbound when she lost control on the snow-covered road. The car went into the southbound lane where it collided head-on with a pickup driven by 17-year-old Jonah Pals of Mason City.

The vehicles came to rest in the southbound lane, with the front of the pickup driven by Pals sticking out into the northbound lane where it was struck by a truck driven by 33-year-old Timothy Hines of Waukee.

Six thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Radke; 3,500-dollars in damage was estimated to a 1998 Ford pickup driven by Pals; and a 1997 Dodge truck driven by Hines sustained an estimated three thousand dollars in damage.

The mishap took place shortly after 6:30 a.m.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol.
