Spencer’s Flagfest/Sesquicentennial Celebration Is Now Just A Few Weeks Away

(Spencer)– The city of Spencer will hold its Flagfest celebration, as well as its 150th anniversary observance the weekend of June 11th-13th. Sheriffa Jones, Executive Director of the Spencer Chamber of Commerce, says there will be a wide range of events…Sheriffa Jones05 

“Everything from homemade cardboard boat races to horse and buggy rides, we’re going to have face painting, some of the usuals, The Chill is going to be on Friday night and that is put together by the Spencer Young Professionals. There’s going to be so many great activities and it’s going to be a busy weekend here in Spencer.”

Jones says extra efforts were made this year to bring things in for teens to enjoy as well…Sheriffa Jones06 

“So the inflatables, you know, in the past they have been probably more younger kid friendly. We’re also going to have a 180 obstacle course, axe throwing, human foosball, so there’s really going to be something for everyone of all ages and that was really one of our goals for this year.”

She says the activities will kick off that Friday evening, June 11th, near the Clay County Courthouse…Sheriffa Jones07 

“We’re going to have some food, basically just our opening ceremony. Saturday the parade which is always great. It’s going to be a little bit bigger this year of course. And then Saturday’s activities are really going to be focused on the Clay County Fairgrounds. And adjacent to them on 4th Avenue is going to be the firefighters water fights.”

A tug of war and a dodge ball tournament will be among some of the other activities.
