Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute Is Coming Back This Summer After Being Canceled Last Year Due To The Pandemic

May 21, 2021

(Wahpeton)– The Okoboji Entrepreneurial Institute is coming back this year. The program was canceled last year due to the pandemic. Alyssa Petersen is the Coordinator of Administration and Communication with the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation, which puts on the event. She says they’re excited to bring it back…Alyssa Petersen03

“So last year we weren’t able to hold the program partly because we knew we wouldn’t be able to do the full program the way that we have in the past. We didn’t want the students to miss out on the different opportunities we have for them throughout the week. And so we held off and decided to come back again this year and we are very excited to be able to have 32 college students back in the lakes area again this upcoming August.”

Petersen says students from the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa, Buena Vista University and Iowa Lakes Community College will be participating…Alyssa Petersen04

“We do a business simulation where they get to compete on teams with each other and meet each other, then they also have opportunities to do business pitch competitions, though some of them already have businesses they have going or have an idea for a business, so they have an opportunity to pitch their competition to some actual venture capitalists and potentially win prize money.”

Petersen says they’re looking for sponsors and host families. Those interested should email info@lakescorridor.com or call the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation at 712-264-3474.
