One Person Sustains Minor Injuries In Fiery Crash Near Sibley

May 19, 2021

(Sibley)– Only minor injuries were reported in a fiery crash Tuesday evening on Highway 9 near a ramp to Highway 60 near Sibley.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 63-year-old Kathleen VanMarel of Orange City was driving a 2015 GMC southbound on the off ramp headed toward Highway 9. Authorities say 36-year-old Pedro Morales of Worthington was driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey eastbound on Highway 9 when the two collided. Deputies say the occupants of the Odyssey managed to get out of the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames. One of the passengers in that vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to the Osceola Regional Health Center in Sibley.

VanMarel was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right-of-way.

The Sibley Fire Department assisted on the scene.
