Dickinson Co. Authorities Release Additional Details Into Collision North Of Terril That Shut Down A County Road For Hours Friday

May 08, 2021

(Terril)– Authorities have released additional details into a collision Friday that shut down a heavily traveled road north of Terril for several hours.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says 46-year-old Chad Simm of Paullina was driving a 2003 Peterbilt semi tractor/trailer southbound on County Road N-14 and 65-year-old Janet Smith of Estherville was driving a 2012 GMC Yukon westbound on County Road A-31. Authorities say Smith pulled into the path of the semi, with the vehicle she was driving going into the east ditch. The semi rolled onto its side, completely blocking the road and spilling its load of pelletized soybean meal.

Smith was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with what was described as non-incapacitating injuries. Simm reported possible injuries but wasn’t taken to the hospital.

The road was shut down for several hours while officials removed the wreckage and cleaned things up.

The collision took place shortly after 10:00 am.
