Emerald Ash Borer Confirmed In Another County In Northwest Iowa

April 21, 2021

(Des Moines)– Emerald Ash Borer has been found in another northwest Iowa county.

Officials say the invasive pest has been found in Lyon county.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health and Inspection Service says a sample from an ash tree near Inwood tested positive for Emerald Ash Borer.

The pest is a significant threat to all species of ash trees. The wood-boring bug tunnels just beneath the bark in the tree’s vascular tissue, disrupting the transport of water and nutrients. Infected trees usually die within two to four years.

Emerald Ash Borer has now been confirmed in 80 of Iowa’s 99 counties.
