(Spirit Lake)– With the upcoming growing season typically comes weeds. The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors last week adopted the county’s policy for noxious weeds. County Weed Commissioner Douglas Todey (Todd-ee) told the board it’s pretty much unchanged from last year…
“We’re grouping our noxious weeds by group one and two based on control dates, again some of the last year obviously being aware that that date can change based on weather conditions. So we’ll see how things play out this year. But that’s our end date for controlling those weeds.”
The policy states leafy spurge, Russian knapweed, Buckthorn, Multiflora rose, Quackgrass and musk thistle must be controlled prior to June 21st. Canada thistle, Field bindweed, Bull thistle, Purple loosestrife, Palmer amaranth, Plumeless thistle and Perennial sow thistle must be controlled prior to July 19th.
Todey says he’s willing to assist landowners with plant identification and control strategies. He can be reached at 336-6269. He says he prefers helping out with erradication rather than issuing fines to violators.
