(Estherville)-Applications are being taken for the STEM BEST Program, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council is now accepting applications for the STEM BEST Program.
Northwest STEM Regional Manager Mary Trent explains. “STEM BEST stands for Business Engaging Students and Teachers, so it’s an award that we put out applications for, you can apply today until May 10th. What’s great is, we have about 75 of these in the State of Iowa, and it partners schools and businesses together. So, it gives students that experience of the real world of work, so they work on special projects for businesses, businesses also help to connect the curriculum that they’re learning, it’s integrating across several curricular areas as well, too, and it really helps to start that pipeline of future workforce that we so need in Iowa.”
She notes that several area schools are already utilizing the program. “It’s probably most popular in our high school areas, but it certainly works as well for the elementary and middle schools. We gave several of them in our region. Spencer has one in their elementary, and they also have their Apprenticeship Program as well there too, and you might have heard of No Boundaries before out of Okoboji. They’re also a STEM BEST Program that’s been wildly successful.”
