(Spencer)– This coming summer will be a busy one in Spencer. The city will be celebrating its 150th anniversary with a myriad of events. Speaking at a press conference today, Mayor Kevin Robinson said a lot people in the community have already been busy putting together plans…
”And so what I’m excited about is the energy the committee and the chamber have put forth in preparing for the 150th celebration. We have a time capsule that’s going to be opened up which I think everyone is looking forward to, as well as we get to participate in building a new time capsule. So if you have ideas and things you’d like to see in that time capsule for future generations to open.”
Sheriffa Jones of the Spencer Chamber of Commerce announced a myriad of events that will be going on in conjunction with the 150th celebration during Flagfest, including opening ceremonies that Friday, June 11th at the Clay County Courthouse at 5:00 pm. She added a number of other events will lead up to that…
”The Flagfest and Sesquicentennial Committee, with the assistance of the Spencer Community Theatre, will be launching a do it yourself period clothing video next week, which will help those who choose to be part of the DIY Clothing Contest. Beginning in May, residents and visitors are also encouraged to visit the Clay County Heritage Center which will host an exhibit specific to the history of Spencer. In May there will be a few programs headed by the Historic Preservation Commission.”
Jones added the closing ceremonies will be held October 10th.
