(Sioux City)– Two Spirit Lake attorneys have been selected as the finalists for an upcoming vacancy of a judgeship that will be created with the upcoming retirement of District Court Judge David A. Lester.
The 3A Judicial Nominating Commission has nominated Matthew T.E. Early and John M. Sandy, both of Spirit Lake. A total of five applicants were considered during interviews held earlier this week at the Clay County Courthouse in Spencer.
Governor Kim Reynolds has 30 days to appoint one of the two nominees to the position.
Judicial District 3A is comprised of Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Palo Alto counties.
District Court judges typically hear a variety of cases including probate, felony criminal cases, dissolution of marriage, adoptions, disputes involving actions of state administrative agencies, juvenile cases and other matters.
