One Of The Five Current & Former City Officials Charged In Armstrong Investigation Enters Plea Deal

February 25, 2021

(Estherville)– The current City Clerk of Armstrong has entered a guilty plea to at least one of the charges filed against her. Tracie Lang was among five current and former city officials who were arrested and charged in a corruption investigation.

Online court records show Lang entered into a plea deal, but it wasn’t certain as to exactly what charge or charges are involved. She was charged with fraudulent practice, felonious misconduct in office, falsifying public documents and tampering with records.

Lang and the town’s Police Chief, Craig Merrill, who was also charged in the investigation, were both placed on unpaid leave at a city council meeting earlier this week. Others charged include the town’s now former Mayor, Greg Buum, who resigned at that same meeting, along with former city clerks Connie Thackery and Mary “Kate” Staton.
