SL City Council Adopts Revised FEMA Policy

February 24, 2021

(Spirit Lake)– A revised purchasing policy pertaining to funds received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency was on the agenda for Tuesday evening’s Spirit Lake City Council meeting. City Attorney/Administrator Gregg Owens told the council it won’t have an impact on COVID relief funds the city has already received…Owens & FEMA Revision

“After FEMA provided money to the state of Iowa for COVID relief, that went through the state of Iowa Homeland Security. Now they’re required to check all of FEMA’s boxes and after the fact one of the boxes we’re required to check now is to have a policy that looks exactly like this that would cover any federal funds related issues. It doesn’t really apply to the money that we got in terms of how we’re able to use it per the stipulations of that relief package. But number one it’s required; number two it will cover anything that might come up in the future. And so if the council were to adopt it the motion would be to supplement our existing financial or purchasing policies with exhibit A, the federal program funding policy set forth.”

The council voted unanimously to adopt the revised policy.
