(Emmetsburg)– Area law enforcement agencies are again alerting the public to numerous scams making the rounds.
Authorities in Palo Alto county say they were alerted of two internet scams within the past week that coerced people to purchase gift cards of up to $500 and then provide the numbers on the cards to unknown persons on the phone.
They say there have also been reports once again of residents receiving phone calls from someone purporting to be with the IRS attempting to get personal information.
Authorities say if you get such a call you should simply hang up. If you receive something like that via email or on the internet, do not click on any links or fill in any information.
