(Ruthven)– A mishap around 5:30 pm Wednesday near Ruthven sent one person to the hospital.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says 69-year-old Sandra Iwen of Emmetsburg had been traveling eastbound on 360th Street and had stopped in the 3700 block where a vehicle was being pulled out of the ditch. Deputies say a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by 31-year-old Angel Nieves Carballo came upon the scene and rear-ended the vehicle driven by Iwen.
Iwen complained of possible injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Palo Alto County Hospital.
Damage to the vehicle driven by Iwen was estimated at $3,000; the one driven by Nieves Carballo sustained an estimated $4,500 in damage.
The collision took place shortly after 5:30 pm.
The Ruthven Fire Department, Ruthven Ambulance, Emmetsburg Ambulance Service, Wickman Towing and the Iowa State Patrol assisted on the scene.
Authorities say the collision remains under investigation.
