(Spirit Lake)– The mild winter we’ve been experiencing so far is a cause for concern when it comes to ice conditions on area lakes. Shane Aiken, a local outdoors expert, says it is very likely the lakes will not have nearly the thickness of ice on them this season when compared to past years…
“This whole year, we’re not going to build ice like we have in the past. I mean I would really be surprised if we hit the 20 inch mark for ice thickness this year, so everybody’s going to have to be really cautious whether if you’re going out ice fishing or, you know, we have Winter Games coming up. It’s really going to be, use caution. I would say no vehicles other than side by sides, snowmobiles or four wheelers on the ice at all.”
The unseasonably mild conditions are expected to continue into the foreseeable future, with 40 degree readings possible mid-week.
