(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce once again this year is collecting natural Christmas Trees and garland for the bonfire for the upcoming University of Okoboji Winter Games. Executive Director Blaine Andera says they’ve established two drop off sites again this year…
“One is at the Dickinson County Fairgrounds and one is at Arnolds Park Amusement Park in the parking lot just to the south of the Maritime Museum building. They’re available there 24 hours a day. We invited anybody that wants to get rid of their Christmas tree or their wreaths or their greenery for the holiday stuff, you’re welcome to put it in there. We just ask that you take all the lights and the Christmas stand and all that stuff off because when we do have that big bonfire for Winter Games that stuff won’t burn of course, so.”
Meanwhile, just how Winter Games will look this time around is still up in the air due to the ongoing pandemic. Andera says they’re still working out the details…
“We are, yeah. You know, Steve, we’re hard at work and the chamber board, is really taking the lead on this and helping with the direction and, you know, we know that there’s a lot of businesses that rely on some income from Winter Games and we want to be responsible to our community also. So we’re certainly planning and look for some more updates as the time comes nearer.”
Andera urges everyone to follow the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce social media sites for updates.
The 2021 U of O Winter Games are set for January 28th through the 31st.
