(Heron Lake, Mn.)– Scores of stranded motorists in southwest Minnesota wound up spending the night in some unfamiliar surroundings.
Jackson County Emergency Management officials say 18 people were housed in Heron Lake and 49 in Lakefield. In Heron Lake, the Community Center was opened as a shelter and in Lakefield some were housed at the Immanuel Lutheran School Gym. Some private residences in the communities hosted stranded motorists in their homes as well. .
Several community members banned together and delivered snacks last night and rolls and water this morning while city road crews plowed routes so rescue crews could safely bring the stranded motorists to the locations.
