Arnolds Park City Council Schedules Public Hearing On Proposed Increase In Water Rates

December 10, 2020

(Arnolds Park)– Water rates could be on the way up in Arnolds Park.

The city council Wednesday evening set January 13th as the date for a public hearing on a proposal to boost the minimum usage rate to $85.00, an increase of $13.00.

Central Water, which provides drinking water to Arnolds Park and Okoboji, is increasing the rates it charges to the cities. The increased revenue, among other things, would go toward some needed upgrades at Central Water’s treatment plant.

In other business, the council directed the city’s Engineer to draw up plans and more detailed cost estimates on a proposal to extend additional water and sanitary sewer service to the area of Brown’s Cottages near the monument. As we reported previously, the city is looking at the possibility of establishing a tiny housing district to help revitalize that area and to accommodate small lot sizes there. They say having the additional water and sewer lines available would help spark that.
