(Cherokee)– One person died Monday evening in a head-on collision on Highway 59 near Cherokee that involved a semi and a Dodge Caravan.
The Iowa State Patrol says Caravan, driven by 50-year-old Bradley Herwig of Cherokee, was traveling southbound in the northbound lane when he collided with the northbound 2009 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by 28-year-old Oscar De Los Reyes Barrera of Palmdale, California.
Herwig died of injuries sustained in the crash; Barrera was taken to the Cherokee hospital with minor injuries.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee Police Department and the Iowa D.O.T assisted on the scene.
The collision took place a little after 8:30 pm.
