(Spencer)– The Spencer Chamber of Commerce is launching a special campaign encouraging people to wear face masks in public settings and business places. Executive Director Sheriffa Jones says the “Be Kind, Be Masked” campaign is a collaborative effort that’s also intended to help make the public aware of Clay county’s mask mandate…
“We actually worked with Vanessa Moore with Vertical Marketing here in Spencer and she helped us recreate some designs. We had actually contacted the city of Hiawatha, Iowa. They had a really strong social media campaign that they were working on and we kind of, you know, based ours off of theirs and so what we did is we reached out to local businesses as well as, you know, some kids that are in the school system and those that are wearing a mask, just not occasionally but they are wearing a mask all the time. Just to help people understand that you can do it. You know we understand it’s not fun, it’s not easy but if our kids have been doing it since August, and, you know, the percentages in our school district are so minimal compared to community spread, we really just need to keep our businesses open.”
Jones says the campaign will be conducted on social media and through posters that will be located in businesses throughout Spencer. She says it will continue through the month of December.
