Iowa Supreme Court Suspends All Jury Trials Until Feb. 1st Due To Surging COVID Cases

November 11, 2020

(Des Moines, IA)  —  The Iowa Supreme Court is suspending all jury trials until February 1st due to the rise in COVID-19 cases across the state.

The high court is also postponing grand jury proceedings until February.  Non-jury trials and other face-to-face proceedings will continue as previously scheduled.

Jury trials resumed in mid-September after being on hold since March.

Chief Justice Susan Christensen said all trials will be postponed unless they start before November 16th, meaning a jury has already been sworn in.  The court will use case priorities from a previous emergency order to reschedule trials.

Christensen said the court will continue monitoring the situation surrounding COVID-19 and update the latest order if necessary.
