Car Vs. Bicycle Collision Claims Life Of An Estherville Teen

November 09, 2020

(Estherville)– An Estherville teen has died of injuries he sustained after being struck by an automobile while riding a bicycle Friday evening.

Emmet county authorities say they were notified around 6:00 pm Friday by a caller who reported being flagged down by the driver of a vehicle that had collided with a bicyclist in the 3900 block of 5th Avenue.

Upon investigating it was determined 66-year-old Gary Clymer of Estherville has been driving a 2005 Mini Cooper westbound and that 16-year-old Desean Hoffman of Estherville was riding the bicycle, also westbound.

Hoffman was taken by ambulance to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville and was transferred by air to a Sioux Falls hospital. Authorities say Hoffman died Saturday of his injuries.

They add the mishap is still under investigation.

The Estherville Police Department assisted on the scene.
