Applications for LIHEAP to be accepted starting November 1

October 30, 2020

(Spirit Lake)-Applications for LIHEAP will be accepted starting November 1, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Applications for LIHEAP to be accepted starting November 1

Applications are being accepted at Upper Des Moines Opportunity for LIHEAP, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Outreach Specialist Catie Cattrysse explains.  “It’s here for qualifying low income homeowners or renters, and it helps pay for a certain portion of their heating costs over the winter, and it just helps take that edge off over winter, because we all know our heating bills and electric bills are normally through the roof.”

She adds that applications are available at the office in Spirit Lake.  “All you’ll need to do is stop by the office, ring our doorbell.  We’ll give you the application, it’s a front and back sheet.  We will then need 30 days proof of income, or if you’re on Social Security, you need your award letter from the beginning of the year.  Otherwise, a 2019 tax return will work as well, but it can’t be an e-filed, it has to be an actual tax return with your Social Security number on it.  Stop by Monday through Friday, 8 to noon, and 1 to 4.”
