Local Health Officials Say It’s Extremely Important To Get A Flu Shot This year

October 19, 2020

(Spirit Lake)– With the colder weather comes flu season. If there was ever a year to get your flu shot, Katy Burke, Dickinson County Public Health Director of Population and Public Health says this would be it…Katy Burke01

“Steve this is one thing you can really do to be proactive about your health this year in going in to get that quick flu shot. We really encourage people to get in if they can. We do have our flu clinics on Wednesdays from 1:00 until 5:30 pm but they can certainly all if that time doesn’t work and make an appointment for a different day.”

Burke says the flu and COVID-19 are a very dangerous combination…Katy Burke02

“It could exacerbate those symptoms and they have seen that it’s possible to get both. You can get both COVID and flu and so it’s something that you can do. to get that flu shot to make sure you are trying to eliminate one of those options. And if you do happen to get a different strain of the flu, getting that flu shot should reduce the symptoms that you do have, have a milder reaction than some of those more serious outcomes.”

The cost for a flu shot through Dickinson County Public Health is $30 if it is not covered by insurance. Many insurance providers do fully cover the cost of the vaccine.

Burke says you should be sure to bring your insurance or Medicare card with you when you come to get your shot.

Appointments can be made by contacting Dickinson County Public Health at 339-6050.
