(Des Moines)– The state of Iowa is reporting another big surge in COVID-19 cases. There were 2,663 new, confirmed cases from 10 a.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday, according to the state’s dashboard.

At 10 a.m. Thursday the state reported 59,368 total positive cases across the state, that number rose to 62,031 by 10 a.m. Friday.

The number of positive cases has increased due to the Iowa Department of Public Health including antigen testing results in its COVID-19 reporting.

This is the highest single-day increase reported in Iowa since the pandemic began, beating out yesterday’s record-setting report of 1,475 new cases.

The state’s website says that of the 62,031 people who have tested positive, 45,897 have recovered. This is 535 more recoveries than what the state reported Wednesday.

Officials reported 12 more deaths within this time frame, leaving the state’s death toll at 1,091.

As of Aug. 27, there are 299 total hospitalizations across Iowa due to the virus. Of those hospitalizations, 91 are in the ICU and 41 are on ventilators.
