(Estherville)– A juvenile from Texas faces charges following a pursuit that took place earlier this month in Emmet county.
Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens says deputies were called to Forest Ridge School in Gruver shortly after 1:00 pm August 10th after getting a report of a runaway juvenile. The 14-year-old had last been seen around 11:45 that morning.
While searching for the teen, a deputy observed what was believed to be the juvenile driving a pickup towing a boat in Gruver. The deputy tried to pull over the vehicle but it continued to Highway 9 and turned west, nearly colliding with a semi. The vehicle continued westbound, occasionally swerving at motorists. Deputies and Emmet County Conservation initiated a rolling roadblock to stop the vehicle in the 4200 block of Highway 9. The vehicle veered off the road, coming to rest in a soybean field.
The 14-year-old driver from Fort Worth, Texas was taken into custody and transported to the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office before being taken to Central Iowa Detention in Eldora. The teen was charged with theft in the 2nd degree, reckless driving, eluding law enforcement and failure to obey a stop sign.
