(Okoboji)-The Bee & Butterfly Festival will be held a little differently this year, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Dickinson County Nature Center will hold Dee’s Bee & Butterfly Festival September 1-4.
Environmental Education Coordinator Bryanna Kuhlman says, families should sign up for a time slot in advance. “Most in the community know that the Bee & Butterfly Festival is usually held one Friday in the month of September, however, this year we’re going to spread it out over 4 afternoons and evenings. We’re doing this to make sure that the crowds stay small and that everyone can still come out and support Monarch conservation and learn a little bit about the importance of our pollinaters. It’s pretty easy to fill out, you just click on the link and you’ll put what time slot works for you. We want to know how many are in your group and then how many kiddos are in your group to make sure we have enough goody bags made up for each kid.”
She adds that a number of activities are on tap for the event. “First you will register with us, and then you will be able to go tag your Monarch butterfly. You’ll get your sheet to take home so then you can look to see if it’s been found on its route down to Mexico, and then we’re going to set up a story book walk through the prairie and then we’re going to have a bag for each kid to take home with 2 pollinator crafts and a honey stick and then, they can also take their annual picture with Sweetie The Bee.”
