August 21, 2020

(Sioux City)– A Mason City man arrested following a pursuit in Dickinson county last year has been sentenced on federal drug charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 30-year-old Jacob Johnson was sentenced today (Fri.) to 11 years and eight months in federal prison.

Johnson pled guilty in March of this year to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

Johnson admitted at the plea hearing that he conspired with others to sell atleast 35 grams of meth between May and October of last year. Johnson and a co-conspirator were accused of selling “fake” meth to an individual in June of 2019, then selling the same person more of the actual drug in October, 2019 to make up for the earlier sale. Following a vehicle pursuit in Dickinson county, Johnson was arrested after being found to be in possession of two ounces of methamphetamine, a sawed off shotgun and an axe.

The case was investigated by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Arnolds Park Police Department, Iowa Department of Narcotics Enforcement and Iowa DCI.
