(Okoboji)-An event to benefit the Shayla Bee Fund will be held this coming weekend. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Shayla Bee Board and Okoboji Classic cars are teaming up for the Cruise around West Lake Okoboji.
Chairman Jerry Faulkner says the event benefits the Shayla Bee Fund, which in turn helps families in need. “Shayla Bee started in April of 2007, our Granddaughter, Shayla, in early 2006. We recognized our fortunate our family was through all of that and the idea came to start something to help families with children in medical crisis. We make financial donations to families. We get third party nominations in and we process them through as our Board, and we make financial contributions to families as they’re approved. Once they become a family, they become eligible for some more aid in the future for those with more ongoing issues. We have a greatest needs fund where we can help those families more.”
He adds that anyone is welcome to join the cruise on Sunday. “Cars will start lining up at noon at OCC. Anybody can bring a car, doesn’t have to be an old car. Any car is welcome. There is a free will offering for anybody that wants to make a donation and then we’ll take off about 1.”
The cruise will go clockwise around West Lake Okoboji.
NOTE: Cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome to participate.
